early this morning, all four oestreichers fly to washington, dc, for dcla. i’m pumped. other than a hiatus the last time yfc hosted the event (in 2003), i’ve been involved in this every-three-years youth event since 1991. this is the first year ys has hosted the event, so it’s a pretty big deal for us (and way-stressful for our staff). i haven’t heard the final numbers, but i expect it will be 9000 - 10,000. my daughter, liesl (our 12 year-old) will attend the event as a participant. jeannie is helping with the prayer chapel, and will be one of the spiritual directors for youth workers. i’m doing a seminar four times for middle school kids, helping with the first day orientation meetings, and giving a devotional at the morning staff and youth worker meeting. max… well, he’ll just be chillin’.

please pray for us. there are a lot of pretty stressed out parents, due to the flooding on the east coast (our office was ‘flooded’ with calls today).

Thank you to you and your staff for hosting it! My best friend and her husband are youth leaders and are taking a group from their church to DC! Everyone is very excited. I think this is the 3rd time they’ve been to the conference and absolutely loved it!

Wish I could be there, but be on the look out, my little brother is going to slap you on the rear.

Wish I could be there! I am doing various weeks of church camp this summer so financially and schedule wise I was not able to come but the church I work with is sending 30 (they leave 7am on Friday) so I will be praying you all have an amazing time and that God will use this event and other YS events to change a generation!!!

I might just wander on site and say hello, but with 9000+ there, my chances of bumping into you might be slim to none. :( [metro DC is my hometown; would love to put in your hand a copy of our newly published book for Asian American Youth Ministry, tho’ it’d probably be easier to mail it to you, so you don’t have to add to your overstuffed luggage on the return]
